Stevenson and Hancock was a prominent 19th-century continuation of the historic Derby porcelain factory, known for producing high-quality ornamental wares that emulated earlier 18th-century styles.

These items are crafted from fine bone china or porcelain, featuring hand-painted enamel details, gilt accents, and frequently applied three-dimensional ceramic flowers known as encrusted or pastillage work.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining factory marks on the base, such as the painted or impressed crown and D marks, alongside assessing the quality of the hand-painting, paste composition, and glaze crazing consistent with age.

Such decorative objects work well as sculptural focal points on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or side cabinet, where their intricate texture and historical character can be appreciated up close.

Antique porcelain should be cleaned exclusively by dusting with a soft, dry cloth or washing very gently by hand in lukewarm water with mild soap when necessary, avoiding dishwashers and harsh abrasives to protect the delicate applied flowers and gilding.
