Well-considered formal design to the top incorporating flowers and foliage with six carved makaras (mythic sea beasts) 'defending' the edges, raised on three legs with spiral-carved foliate bands, palmette capitals and acanthus-clasped vase-shaped feet

Furniture such as this was popular in the Britian from the 1880s. and interestingly Liberty & Co. sold examples within their 'Art Furniture' range.
