A Mahogany Based Centre Table with Paint Effect Top

19th century
Description

The the mahogany based centre or dining table has a tapering central column terminating in carved scroll toes. The top has been professionally painted by a local artist and paint conservator to mimic a slice of petrified wood. Please see images of the slice used. The top was correctly prepared by applying a coat of gesso prior to the paint effects .A layer of shellac protects the painted surface. This is a Victorian table given a super, modern twist. Table c1850
