Table Rare Fine Card Hall Lamp Console Burr Walnut I Waterer Chertsey C1830

19th century
Description

Here we have the finest of burr Walnut card hall games lamp tables by James Waterer and Sons Chertsey c1830. As you can see the table has outstanding colour and patina. The cabinet makers were not prolific so items of furniture by them rarely come up for sale. We believe all of their work was comissioned and therefore very fine and being in Chertsey their clientele were very affluent. It was in about 1826 that James Waterer moved from Walton-on-Thames to Chertsey to take on the business of cabinet maker and auctioneer which had already been carried out by an uncle and nephew, both of the name of Joseph Sparrow, the elder of whom died in 1823. There is a beautifully shaped top with moulded edge. The top has half matched veneers of superb grain and deep rich colour. There is a carved moulding to the front and the top opens to reveal and circular baize lined sufare with crossbanded Walnut border. There is space beneath the top for card etc which is all solid Mahogany lined. Often the top of these tables are beautiful but are let down by the base. However in this case the base is spectacular. The stem is beautifully turned and the legs perfectly shaped. The carving is exquisite and some of the best we have seen and all in solid Walnut. The feet retain the original brass casters. A truly outstanding feet of cabinet making in fantastic retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 75 cm high 87 cm wide 45 cm deep.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
