Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Kingwood, prized for its dense grain and rich variegated colouring, was extensively utilised by master cabinetmakers during the 18th century, particularly within the Louis XV and transitional periods. Ormolu, or gilt-bronze mounts, were added to highlight structural contours and protect vulnerable corners from wear.

These pieces typically feature fine hardwood veneers such as kingwood or tulipwood laid in geometric parquetry patterns over a secondary wood carcass. Hand-cut dovetail joints secure the drawer construction, while cast ormolu mounts are affixed using traditional brass pins or screws.

Authentication relies on examining the interior construction for hand-sawn timber marks, uniform wear patterns consistent with age, and the quality of the ormolu casting, which should exhibit crisp chiselling and a soft, aged patina rather than modern bright plating.

Positioning the table as a contrasting accent piece against neutral walls allows the intricate wood grain and metallic mounts to stand out. It functions effectively next to a clean-lined modern sofa to introduce historical texture and warmth.

Maintenance requires dusting with a dry, soft cloth and occasionally applying a microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood finish. Harsh chemical polishes and abrasive materials must be avoided to prevent damage to the delicate gilt-bronze surfaces.
