FAQs

Syrian inlay furniture tradition dates back centuries, originating primarily in Damascus, where master artisans utilised intricate geometric patterns to adorn wooden surfaces with precious materials like mother-of-pearl, bone, and rare hardwoods.

Traditional pieces are constructed from solid hardwoods such as walnut, beech, or cedar, featuring meticulously hand-carved frames and thousands of individually cut pieces of camel bone and mother-of-pearl secured with natural adhesives and intricate stringing.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut, irregular tesserae with slight variations in the natural shell and bone, traditional joinery methods, aged wooden patination underneath, and subtle asymmetries indicative of entirely handmade craftsmanship.

Pairing an ornate, heavily patterned table with minimalist contemporary seating and neutral surroundings allows the intricate craftsmanship to serve as a striking focal point without overwhelming the room.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent the wood from expanding and causing the delicate inlays to lift, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and avoiding chemical polishes or direct sunlight.
