Interesting mid C19th rectangular mahogany table with an inlaid specimen-wood top .

Of free-standing form with a single cedar-lined frieze drawer fitted with a lock (key not present) and original turned knob pulls , above a lotus-carved turned central column pillar support on a spreading carved collar onto concave-sided quadrupite platform base with compressed bun feet below.

The top veneered in a random geometric or parquetry design with non-English indigenous exotic wood specimens , the centre with a segmented octagonal design.

The identified species amongst them being ebony , palm-wood, rosewood, satinwood and walnut. The edge of the table with a double cross-banded ‘chevron’ border also of specimen timbers .

An unusual table of possibly West Indies Colonial origin , perhaps Jamaica.

* The leading producers of this type of inlaid and parquetry specimen wood furniture in Jamaica during this period were the workshops of Ralph Turnbull.

Useful scale and practical proportions, for use as a side , sofa or lamp table combining superb decorative style with functionality.

In excellent original condition, with a good original colour and patina.
