Fine Late Georgian Inlaid Mahogany Pembroke Table

A fine quality and very original late Georgian or Regency period mahogany breakfast Pembroke table. The table is of a typical Regency form with a pedestal base that stands on four legs. The legs all have a sabre curve with a knee inlaid with a stylised anthemion design, they terminate in lion paw castors all of which are original. The pedestal base is crossbanded in calamander wood, while the central pedestal has ebony moulding and is of faceted profile. The top has a drawer at each end with ebony cockbeading and the original brass handles, and include working keys. The corners to the side of the drawers are inlaid again with a stylised anthemion design. The top is a solid piece of Cuban mahogany with beautiful figuring and a superb original colour and patina. The table does, as would be expected for a piece of this age, have the odd minor mark. The piece is of superb construction throughout and therefore is a very usable and sturdy piece. The table has a great original colour and patina throughout and typifies the fine English country house look. This type of large Pembroke table was used as a breakfast table in the house and could be set in the parlour and then folded down and put against a sofa or wall for the rest of the day. It would work perfectly today as a small dining table, side table or sofa table. C.1820.
