Japanese Satsuma Ewer By Ryozan Okamoto For Yasuda Company

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large and fine quality Meiji period 1868-1912, Satsuma ware ewer by the highly regarded artist Ryozan Okamoto, who was recorded as working as the lead artist for the Yasuda company of Kyoto, this fine rice wine (Sake) ewer has been decorated within two main central cartouches as well as two smaller panels each containing scenes of everyday Japanese life, including the tea ceremony as well as outdoor pursuits and socializing against a backdrop of cherry blossom trees, pavilions and a lakeside setting , with particular fine gilt detail to represent the clouds. The remainder of the body and lid decorated with formal geometric borders interspersed with delightful floral detail , the handle decorated in a striking black and gilt and the spout further decorated with intricate geometric bands aside panels of auspicious implements and flora , the underside signed in a seal that translates to Dai Nihon, Kyoyto, Tokij...
