Here is a fine quality antique tilt top mahogany piecrust and birdcage tripod table, in the style of the Georgian Chippendale period, circa 1910, in excellent original condition. The top is constructed of solid top quality mahogany and boasts a stunning floral carved piecrust design to the perimeter. The tilt top table features the original hinges and original working brass-locking mechanism; this locks the table into place when horizontal. Below, sits a four-pillar birdcage structure with a central wooden peg that connects the table to the pedestal. This bird card design allows the top to rotate. If the peg is removed, the table can be dismantled. The birdcage mechanism has been superbly made and the design denotes the quality of components used in the construction of this table. The table features a well-shaped and very good quality turned pedestal stem, featuring a bulbous section to the top, which incorporated floral blind fretwork detail. The stem terminates on an elegant fluted urn above three cabriole legs, which boast acanthus leaf carvings to the knees. The legs stand on well-carved ball and claw feet (sign of quality).

Table Height = 71.3cm or 28” or 2ft 4”
Knee Height = 68.8cm or 27” or 2ft 3”
Diameter = 60cm or 23” or 1ft 11”

Condition Report:
This table is in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The top and base are original to each other. The working hinges and brass locking mechanism are all original in excellent good condition. Importantly, there are no breaks to the stem or legs, which is common with tripod tables. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The item is solid in joint and ready to use.
