Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian solid mahogany & brass metamorphic adjustable music stand / side tripod table, with a Swann & Millican mechanism, circa 1860, in excellent original condition. The music stand can be configured either as a circular side table, or as a duet music stand. When configured as a side table, the stand features a moulded circular top.
The more the top is spun, the more pronounced this configuration becomes and the higher it raises. When configured as a music stand, the stand boasts a duet arrangement, with two back-to-back bookrests. The top is raised on a central ring turned column and supported by shaped supports, which also form part of the mechanism. The supports also display a brass stamp with the inscription “Swann and Millican Scroll Band Movement Patent.” The stand rests on a splayed tripod scribe carved base, terminating on its original scroll feet.

Condition Report:
This antique music stand is in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The steel & brass mechanism has been cleaned and serviced in our workshops and is smooth-running and also solid. No breaks or damaged to the mechanism. The column and base are solid and the feet are original. The stand has a lovely warm colour and patination. This music stand is well constructed, solid in joint, sits firm on the ground and is ready to use.
