A Rare Regency Period Marble Inlaid and Rosewood Backgammon Table

Description

A rare Regency period backgammon table. With a superb Italian marble inlaid backgammon top and a rosewood base, the table is of excellent quality and colour. During the late 18th and early 19th century’s, to finish their education the young aristocracy would undertake the “Grand Tour” in Europe. They would buy marble and pietra dura tops which they would ship back to their estates in England and the London cabinet makers would then make bases for them so they could be used as tables. From the construction of this table, without question this would have been the case with this fabulous Italian marble top. English C1825
