Pair of Card Tables in the Manner of Bruce and Burns

Description

Circa 1790, rare pair of exhibition quality card tables in the manner of Bruce and Burns of Edinburgh. The D-shaped tables have mirror matched flamed mahogany veneers and broad cross-banding. The tops are hinged, opening to reveal a satinwood and inlaid banding, and to the front is a central diamond shaped inlaid panel, with various panels. The sides are in flamed mahogany, and there are 4 inlaid diamond shapes at the tops of each of the square, tapering legs, with boxwood and ebony string inlay beneath this, which continues around the sides. The hinged back legs swing out to support the tops, and to the front legs are string inlay with a Gothic arch, finished with a small satinwood dot and tapering down to a block.
