Superb Regency Rosewood Card Table, Trotter of Edinburgh

A superb quality Regency rosewood card table almost certainly by Trotter of Edinburgh. The table is of a typical Regency design with a quatrefoil base, sabre legs, and gilt metal lions paw feet castors. The central turned column is of darker variant rosewood like coramandel and adds a dramatic contrast. The top is veneered in rosewood in a segmented design like rays of the sun. The quality of the table, various design elements including the gadroon moulding, and the anthemion carving to the front are all indicative of William Trotter of Edinburgh the highest regarded furniture maker of the Scottish enlightenment. The table has beautiful fine proportions and is of a small desirable size. The piece is in excellent condition with a great slightly faded untouched colour and patina. C.1810.
