Description

This piece is absolutely gorgeous, and complete with half doll and pincushion together. The porcelain half doll has wonderful mint green colour dress and cloche hat to match with black accents to hat, collar and wrists. Holding a pink rose in one hand her other rests on the pillow. She is about 5-1/8” (13cm) in height to top of her hat and the widest part of cushion a 5” (12.7cm). On the bottom there is a black stamped GERMANY. Very typical of the makers Fasold and Stauch with attention to detail and exquisitely executed. She is not only rare herself but to also be on such a well preserved and unusual cushion is amazing.

There are no chips or cracks to her, some rubbing off green paint off the bottom of one shoe that is all. Even the cushion is in great condition, just faded from age, no holes or tears. She is an example of 1920’s German superior quality in its figures. These complete pieces in this rarity model and condition genuinely don’t come along often .

A pin cushion doll, often known as a half doll, is a ceramic upper torso and head manufactured primarily in Germany during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, designed to be attached to a weighted cushion for holding sewing pins.

These items were typically crafted from glazed or bisque porcelain, featuring hand-painted facial features and attire, and mounted onto fabric cushions filled with materials such as sawdust, wool or cotton.

Authentic pieces often feature maker marks or model numbers stamped on the interior porcelain base, delicate hand-painted detailing, and signs of age such as minor wear to the fabric or gilt highlights.

This piece can be displayed on a vanity table, dressing chest or open shelving unit to add a touch of historical charm and colour to a traditional or eclectic interior scheme.

To preserve the fragile porcelain and vintage textiles, keep the item out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, dust gently with a soft dry brush, and avoid exposure to moisture.
