Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the Regency era.
It is supported on a solid and most impressive vase-shaped central column with fluted gadroon carving, and a gadrooned collar, leading to the triform base, similarly beaded which leads to finely carved Gillows "Rigby" feet and the original castors within. 46ins (117cms) wide.
The quality of the carving is exceptional, and almost certainly carried out by Gillows" most famous carver, John Rigby
