Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English George III oak provincial side table, circa 1800, displaying a lovely dark oak colour, in good condition. The table incorporates a simple two-plank cross-banded top with a moulded edge, above a single flush cross-banded working drawer. The drawer features old replacement (most likely Victorian) brass drop handles on shaped circular escutcheons. The pine-lined drawer is constructed with primitive hand dovetail joints and is decorated with a moulded front. The drawer runs smoothly and closes flush to the frame. The table is raised on four straight, chamfered block legs. The table features the original top and backboard to the rear; the frame has been constructed in the traditional joined manner for that period. The item is solid in joint and ready to use.
Condition Report:
This table is in good condition, considering its age. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, top and inside of drawer, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos). The drawer is in good working order and closes flush to the frame. The drawer features old replacement (most likely Victorian) brass drop handles on shaped circular escutcheons. The table features the original top and backboard to the rear. There are no breaks to the frame or legs. The frame has been constructed in the traditional joined manner. As the table boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic rich colour and patination. This table is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
