Description:
This is a superb quality antique English late Victorian solid mahogany extendable dining table, which can seat up to 8 persons, circa 1890, boasting a fabulous colour, in excellent original condition. The table features a solid mahogany top with a stunning colour, with a mouled edge, above a straight frieze and fine bead moulding. The table is raised on lovely reeded tapering legs, which terminate on the original brass & mug castors. The table consists of two identical halves, which are connected via the original corkscrew winding mechanism. This mechanism can be used to wind the two halves completely together to create a circular table, which will seat four people. Alternatively the mechanism can wind the two ends apart to create a space into which a centre leaf can be inserted, to create an elongated table; there are a total of three interlocking leaves which, when all are fitted, create a table which is 7ft 10” in length and will seat up to eight people. The winding mechanism is operated by use of a crank, which inserts into a hole at one end of the table and turns a central crankshaft that runs under the table top. The chairs in the picture are not included in the price.
Condition Report:
This dining table is excellent original condition. The tops are free from any stains or marks. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The table has been professionally French polished in our workshops.
The table retains its three original centre leaves and the original corkscrew winding mechanism and crank. There are no splits or warps to the table top. The table retains its original polish; therefore it exhibits a stunning rich colour and patination. The table is well constructed, solid in join and ready to use.
