A 17thc French Walnut Refrectory Hall Table

17th century
Description

This is a rare relic....a 17thC walnut hall table with a 4.5 cm thick one piece top. Because of its height it is a centre table for a grand hall rather than an eating table although it could be used for eating with long benches either side. The top has pegged and cleated ends and is pegged into the oak rails below. The legs are of cherry again pegged with stretchers all round probably of walnut . The end drawer is massive being 95 cm in length with huge side rails slotted in the French manner. The drawer alone is extremely heavy and has been suject to some 'French' restoration to the base of the side rails and drawer end. The top has an insert repair to one of the cleated ends and the drawer again has a repair to its face. the whole has been eaten by worm which is very common for a walnut piece but this is long dead. One of the cherry legs has had a splice repair in cherry wood to one of its inner faces....battle scars to be expected in a piece of this age. The whole is sturdy, handsome and very practical.

155 cm long

73 cm deep and 82 cm high.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
