Fine Mahogany Library Writing Table

19th century
Description

A particularly good quality and ingenious LIBRARY WRITING TABLE in splendid original condition.

On the face of it, this fine metamorphic table is of conventional form, with a long drawer to the frieze and a writing surface that can be tilted upwards and supported by an easel if required.

However both sides of top slide outwards, to reveal fitted compartments for ink, pens, pencils etc and notepaper, and there is a further large slide to the back. It is supported on pretty carved solid mahogany uprights, leading to carved cabriole legs and scrolled feet. Probably by Hollands (unsigned) this is a super table! 36ins wide; 18ins deep; 30.5ins high. (91 x 45.5 x 77.5cms)
