Rosewood Library Table

19th century
Description

Circa 1820, rectangular rosewood library table. With black leather top which has been tooled and Greek key gilded, and is in 3 panels. The fore edge is veneered in rosewood, continuing around the sides and back (it is freestanding). There is a deep apron to the front, 2 ash-lined drawers with one slightly larger than the other. There is a simple square beading to the drawer fronts, and it stands on trestle ends with scrolling top that finishes on a C scroll. This continues down to a circular section to the middle with carved flower head and scrolling arms. A tapering stretcher with ring turns provides stability between the trestles, and it finished on 4 squat, turned feet and castors.
