Regency Anglo Chinese Drum Table

19th century
Description

A rare Regency period Anglo Chinese drum table work box. Constructed from fine Macassar ebony and amboyna. The circular table has a narrow band of 6 bow fronted dummy drawers above 4 real drawers and a further 4 dummy deeper drawers, all with amboyna fronts and Macassar cock beading, brass escutcheons and working locks and keys. The drawer bottom with Chinese characters, see photo. The beautifully figured amboyna and Macassar edged top opens to reveal a well fitted interior having various open and lidded compartments with ivory pulls and silk thread spool. The hinged lid stays open via a brass stay and closes onto a brass ring which conceals the lock. The turned and reeded Macassar ebony column with good quality carved detail and supported by the quatrefoil base with concave sides, ebony quarter turned edging and standing on lion’s paw feet. Size:- Height…31’’/ 79cm. Diameter…22.25’’/ 56.5cm. Condition and colour very good.
