Elegant Victorian Rosewood Circular Sewing Table

This is an elegant rosewood table from around 1880 with a most unusual design. The circular inlaid top is centrally hinged with two opening flaps to reveal the sewing comparment interior, lined with plush velvet. The slender legs are line inlaid with ivory bands in solid rosewood joined at the base by a lower galleried tier with pretty bobin turned trellis. The table surface is again solid rosewood, with a good rich colour, (some age related marks but nothing serious), the central design being inlaid with satinwood and ivory. The table has a good firm structure. On close scrutiny there are signs of a previous splice repair to the lower ends of two of the legs but they are hard to spot and appear to have been very professionally done by a cabinet maker and are quite sound.

Overall this is a charming Victorian period table of quite a rare design seldom seen.

The table has pleasing, neat proportions measuring 70 cms in height and 55 cms in diameter.
