Georgian Mahogany Duncan Fyffe Hall Table

18th century
Description

Late 18th to early 19th century mahogany hall or console table in the manner of DUNCAN FYFFE. This unusual design table has been made to go flush against a wall and is in completely original, in-touched condition. It turns up beautifully underneath. Tripod type base with turned column with carved and reeded decoration. The swept legs are also reeded on the top edge and terminate in quite high bobbin turned feet.

The top section has vertical reeding all along the frieze with a triple reed moulding to the base horizontally. The top has a triple reeded edge. The corners have a diamond pattern reed moulded decoration. There is no drawers. Underneath the table has the ORIGINAL iron support which has been partly inlaid into the column, it has been very cleverly designed so it can not be seen when the table is upright.

It was probably one of a pair originally.

The table does have a bit of a Trotter of Edinburgh feel to it but it appears to me to have more of a Duncan Fyffe look about it to me.

Good colour and original patination from years of waxing.

SIZE; 37" wide by 29 1/2" deep by 31" high

CIRCA; 1810
