Fine Early Victorian Adjustable Reading Table

Description

Fine quality early Victorian mahogany adjustable (bed) reading table in very good condition. Nice shape base with turned column with top quality engraved brass decoration to the top ring. The table top with two fully adjustable reading up stands. The whole table top is also fully adjustable via the column which adjusts via a sprung catch on a brass ratchet mechanism.

These tables were designed so the base would go under the bed and allow the top to go over the bed at the correct position for reading or eating. Just as useful today as when it was made.

The table is missing its two pull out mahogany stops for the adjustable parts which stop the book falling off when at an angle but these could easily be made if required.

I've seen these before but many of them are very poor quality, this example has obviously been made by one of the top cabinet making firms of the day.

Lovely colour with original patination and waxed finish.

SIZE; The top is 30" by 16". The height is adjustable from 26" to 37".
