Description:
Here is an attractive and fine quality antique French provincial carved oak rectangular coffee table, circa 1860, in good condition. The top of the coffee table features three wide oak boards within a mitred boarded frame, finished with a carved floral moulding. Below, there is a blind oak lined drawer, which is ideal for storing magazines and other items. The drawer features its original carved central handle. The frieze is decorated with profuse floral carvings to all sides. Below, the coffee table is raised on four strong barley twist legs, which terminate on floral carved block feet. The legs are united by a central barley twist stretcher, which incorporates a moulded central carved block.
This item features a rich red-brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
This coffee table is in good condition. Adapted from a taller table some time ago, the table boasts its original polish; it has a lovely colour and patination to the top. Nominal old use marks to the top and leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The single working drawer is in excellent working order; it features the original carved blind drawer with working lock (with key), which closes flush to the frame. The table is well constructed, solid in joint (does not wobble) and is ready to use.
