Matched 'Pair' of Late C19th Anglo-indian Carved Shisham Octagonal Tables on Folding Bases.

19th century
Description

Matched 'pair' of late C19th Anglo-Indian carved shisham octagonal tables on folding bases.

High quality tightly-carved octagonal tops of varying carved detail but of identical size , design and scale . Each with geometric and trailing floral and leaf motif designs . The folding and hinged carved bases each with intricate 'pinjra' or 'bird-cage' work , geometric open-fret-work panels of the type traditionally employed in Indian architecture.

Produced by principally Sikh craftsmen in the Simla (or Shimla) hill-top region of Northern India , in locally sourced "shisham" timber for export to the English market .

Both tables of matching dimensions and scale , excellent matched pair of tables to bring symmetry to an interior scheme.

Each table in excellent original condition with no breaks, damage or losses. One table slightly darker in colour , both in dry untouched state . Could be waxed and 'colour-matched' if desired.

Highly fashionable in England during the late C19th , these exotic imports and similarly designed articles of furniture , were produced for leading retailers such as ' Liberty's ' of London .

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
