George III Mahogany Inlaid Edinburgh Tea Table

Description

Circa 1800, good George III mahogany and inlaid Edinburgh fold over tea table. The D shaped top with boxwood string inlay and a crossbanded fore-edge, opens to reveal the original mahogany interior with wonderful deep red unfaded colour inside. At the front of the table there is a full length drawer with cast brass handles. The inlay on the drawer is similar to that on the top. The whole piece stands on 4 square tapering legs, finishing on spade toes. At the top of the legs there is arched string which occurs regularly on Edinburgh tables of this period. The table also retained its original wooden hinges at the back where the legs swing out to support the table top. Good piece of Scottish furniture.
