19thc Mahogany Tilt Top Centre Table of Superb Quality in the Manner of Gillows

An early/mid 19th century mahogany tilt top centre table of superb quality in the manner of Gillows.

This table consists of a superb quality mahogany veneered tilt top with a turned applied moulding to the edge giving the appearance of gadrooning leading down to a fine quality mahogany frieze with ball bead decoration.

This leads down to the base consisting of a turned central column with reeded decoration with a turned moulding below, the tri-form base having ball bead decoration with three carved scrolling acanthus feet terminating on brass castors.

This table is very versatile piece with the tilt top option, it is in excellent condition, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.

Although there is no evidence of the Gillows stamp this table is of superb quality and is 'in the manner of Gillows', a table with an almost identical central column can be found in the book 'Gillows of Lancaster & London 1730-1840 Volume I' by Susan E Stuart, page 262, plate 266
