Large Japanese One Piece IVory And Shibayama Elephant

As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this large ivory and Shibayama encrusted Elephant, the beast stands with his trunk down and is heavily decorated throughout with a good mix of butterflies, flowers, swags and beads , the main flanks are designed as Mon with a Phoenix in one and multi coloured hardstones to the reverse ,his head and lower body decoration is a typical Asian stle for an Elephant on parade , it is not common to get Shibayama Elephants carved from one piece of ivory quite this size, they are more commonly segmented when they get to this size and above, he is signed twice to the underside, probably by the ivory carver and the Shiabayma artist, a magnificent beast to grace your home !!!
The condition overall is delightful , no losses to the inlay and only light age related hairlines to the ivory.
