Description:

Here is a very pretty provincial antique George III oak side table, circa 1815, in good original condition. This table would have been used in a country property in England during the early 19th Century and the design was influenced by the Regency period at the time, with the refined slim design and Regency brass oval plate handles. The table features a simple two-piece oak top finished with a primitive moulded edge. The top of the table boasts a lovely piece of oak; the medulla rays in the timber are superbly pronounced. Below, there are two working pine lined hand-dovetailed drawers, which feature the original brass Regency oval plate handles. Interestingly, the drawers still retain the original blue sugar paper. Sugar paper, imported from the colonies, was used to line furniture during the Regency and William IV period for hygienic reasons. The drawer fronts feature a simple scribe moulding to the edge depicting cock beading. The table stands on simple block legs, which are supported by elegantly shaped spandrels to the frame of the table. The table boasts a superb rich oak colour and is in very good condition.

This item features a rich golden oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Condition Report:

This table is in very good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawers are in good working order and close flush to the frame. The drawers are pine lined, hand-dovetailed and boast their original brass Regency handles and oval back plates. The drawers retain their original blue rice paper lining. As the table boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination. This table is solid in joint and ready to use.

Knee height = 62cm or 24?” or 2ft ?”
