Description:
This is an attractive and superb quality antique French provincial walnut rectangular coffee table, circa 1850. The top of the coffee table features three stunning walnut planks, finished with a thumb-moulded edge. Below, there are two large working chestnut lined drawers, which feature hand dovetail joints. The drawers are ideal for storing magazine and smaller items. The drawer’s feature their original shaped brass loop handles. Further below, the frame is finished with a decorative reeded frieze flanked by breakfront corner blocks to both sides. Further below, four strong barley-twist legs that terminate on paid feet support the table. A central barley twist stretcher, which connects the legs, features an elegant central finial. This period coffee table is unique and quirky with stunning quality; it would be an ideal in either a traditional or contemporary setting.
This item features a rich dark brown walnut colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
This coffee table is in excellent condition. Adapted from a taller table some time ago, the table boasts its original polish; it has a fantastic colour and patination to the top. There are no marks or scratches to the top of the table. The two working drawers are in excellent working order; they feature the original brass handles and closes flush to the frame. The table is solid in joint (does not wobble) and is ready to use.
