Edwardian Rosewood Ladies Marquetry Inlaid Leather Worktable (Circa 1900)

1900 - 1920
Description

This is an attractive and superb quality antique Edwardian rosewood ladies marquetry inlaid worktable consisting of a leather desk and sewing table, circa 1900, in excellent original condition. The writing table features a three-piece up-stand consisting of a central compartment with an inner drawer. The central door, which is adorned with satinwood inlay, features the original key and working lock. The two flanked hand dovetailed drawers feature boxwood string inlay to the outer frame. The desk boasts the original green leather. Below the desk there is a compartmentalized writing drawer, which holds inkwells in each corner; this drawer is ideal for storing stationery and letters. All handles on this worktable are original. Further below sits the pull out satinwood inlaid sewing box. Inside, the sewing box is lined with green silk fabric. The exterior of the table boasts profuse satinwood string inlay to the top, front, sides, back and legs. The table sits on four tapering inlaid legs, which terminate on the original brass & mug castors.

This item features a rich dark rosewood colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Condition Report:

This item is in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The leather is completely original and is in good clean condition with no rips or damage. The gold tooling is slightly faded but this is to be expected if the leather is original. There are no breaks to the legs or stretchers. The desk has the original working key and lock to the central door. There is no missing inlay. The item is solid in joint and ready to use.
