This is an attractive and superb quality antique French provincial walnut side table from the 3rd Republic period, circa 1880, in excellent original condition. This table would have been used in a country property in France. The table features a beautiful walnut boarded top with a lovely grain configuration, finished with a thumb moulding to its perimeter. Below, there are two working drawers, which features their original brass knobs. The table boasts a rare central locking mechanism in between the drawers, with a very pretty brass fretwork escutcheon plate. With a single turn of the key, the locking mechanism locks both drawers at the same time. The drawers are pine lined and close flush to the frame. The table has been handmade using the pegged construction method. Four elegant barley twist legs support the table, with a connecting barley twist stretcher for additional support.
This table boasts a rich cherry wood colour. As its boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
This item is in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. As its boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination. There are no stains or cup marks to the top of the table. The two working drawers feature its original brass knobs and retain its rare original locking mechanism with the original key. The drawers are in good working order and closes flush to the frame. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
