Description:
This is an attractive and superb quality antique French provincial carved oak rectangular coffee table, circa 1860. The top of the coffee table features stunning oak boards, finished with a thumb moulded floral edging. Below, there are two large working oak lined drawers, which feature hand dovetail joints and quarter beading to the internal drawers (sign of quality), are ideal for storing magazine and smaller items. The drawer features its original carved handles. The frame of the table is constructed using the original peg construction method and the frieze is decorated with profuse floral carvings to all sides of the table. The back of the table features dummy drawers. Below, the coffee table is supported by four strong tapered and turned baluster legs, which are connected by a central turned stretcher, which terminate on pad feet. The block stretchers features further floral carvings. This period coffee table is unique and quirky with stunning quality; it would be an ideal in either a traditional or contemporary setting.
This item features a rich mid to dark brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
This coffee table is in excellent condition. Adapted from a taller table some time ago, the table boasts its original polish; it has a fantastic colour and patination to the top. There are no marks or scratches to the top of the table. The two working drawers are in excellent working order; they feature the original carved handles and closes flush to the frame. The table is solid in joint (does not wobble) and is ready to use.
