Description:
This is a very good quality and early period antique English William & Mary oak side table, circa 1690, in good condition. This table would have been used in a country property in England during the early 18th Century. The table features a simple moulded three-piece pegged top with a large primitive over hand to either side. Below, there is a single working geometric drawer (the drawer front has been adapted possibly in Victorian times), which features geometric moulding. The drawer features two elegant brass pear-drop handles with floral back plates. Below the drawer features a primitive shaped apron. The table has been handmade using the pegged construction method; this is evident on the top and body of the table. The table stands on four small elegant tapering cylindrical legs, which terminate on pad feet. The table boasts a superb rich oak colour and is in excellent condition.
This item features a rich dark brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
This table is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawer is in good working order and closes flush to the frame. The drawer front has been adapted/replaced at a later stage (possibly in Victorian times) with early timber. The drawer is oak lined and hand-dovetailed. The pear-drop brass handles are old replacements. As the table boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination. This table is solid in joint and ready to use.
