Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1800s.
It is supported on a carved and fluted solid rosewood central column, leading to similarly carved (typically Gillows) cabriole legs and original cast brass "barrel" castors beneath. A fine and rare table by this eminent cabinetmaker.

The purpose of this table was to use it conventionally perhaps as a wine or side table, but also to plant crocus or other bulbs in the cavity below. A few days prior to a party, the panel would be removed to enable the flowers to fully blossom and be displayed on the important day.
