This is an attractive and superb quality antique French provincial oak rectangular coffee table, circa 1850. The top of the coffee table features stunning oak boards, with a framed perimeter, finished with a thumb moulded and reeded edge. Below, there is a large single working drawer, which is ideal for storing magazine and smaller items. The drawer features its original brass knob. The frame of the table is constructed using the original peg construction method and the frieze is decorated with a reeded lip. Below, the coffee table is supported by four strong tapered and turned baluster legs, which are connected by a central turned stretcher, which terminate on pad feet. The central stretcher features an elegant central decorative urn. This period coffee table is unique and quirky with stunning quality; it would be an ideal in either a traditional or contemporary setting.
This item features a rich light mid brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
This coffee table is in excellent condition. Adapted from a taller table some time ago, the table boasts its original polish; it has a fantastic colour and patination to the top. There are no marks or scratches to the top of the table. The large working drawer is in good working condition; it features the original brass knob and closes flush to the frame. The table is solid in joint (does not wobble) and is ready to use.
