Collinge Antiques has dated this piece to the 1910s.
Probably originally designed for a public library or bank perhaps the design is carried around all four sides suggesting they stood in the centre of a room. The Liverpool designer and artist Ashby Tabb, (whose company operated under the same name) is best known for quality commercial work in hotels and public buildings and later (as part of Heaton Tabb & Co) for the White Star Liners built by Harland and Wolff. Excellent condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops. With an original maker’s label to the underside of each.
