Early C19th circular top specimen-wood veneered table on low base. 'Coffee'/reception-room height table featuring a stunning radiating and concentric marquetry veneered specimen-wood top. A huge variety of exotic, tropical and indigenous woods ,including rosewood, satinwood, ebony, coromandel, oak, birch, box-wood and walnut. Chequer-work bands and stringing throughout the design. A stunning colour and patination. The associated base constructed in satin birch or beech in a faux/simulated bamboo design, with 4 supports. A shallow frieze beneath and 'chinoiserie' bracket corners. A great piece of workmanship , combining in a highly decorative and practical table. The top probably produced in Tunbridge Wells ,Kent ,a renowned centre for the manufacture of such wares, whilst the bespoke base undoubtedly made by the London retailers in what is their signature design. A glass top could be supplied if desired to fit. Provenance: bought from Mallett Fine Antiques , at 'Bourdon House' , London in 1980's. Cleaned and waxed. Dia. 36" x H 18". England c.1830
