Fine Sofa Table by Gillows

Description

A particularly fine quality early 19th century mahogany SOFA TABLE in excellent condition and almost certainly by Gillows of Lancaster.*

The beautifully figured top, laterally veneered across both leaves has rounded corners and triple reeded edges, whilst to the frieze are two large oak-lined drawers, flanked by small recessed panels. It is supported on 'standard' ends, united by a "hidden" hoop stretcher, leading to reeded sabre legs and original brass sabot castors.

A lovely and impressive sofa table measuring: 27.5ins deep; 40 ins wide (closed) and 60ins wide when opened out. (69.5 x 101.5 x 152.5cms).

* A number of features of this table are typically Gillows, particularly the finely-figured laterally-veneered top across both leaves and the small recessed panels flanking the drawers on both sides.
