Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1800s.
It has two drop leaves, a solid mahogany top and is finished with a decorative cross banded edge framed by ebony and boxwood string inlay. On one side can be found two working oak lined drawers while the other side displays two faux drawers. All have decorative oval brass handles and the base edge of the apron displays an unusual brass finish. The table stands on splayed reeded legs with brass lion paw castors and also has a central turned cross stretcher for added stability. The table is full of charm and character from years of use, as to be expected from a piece of this age, and is a lovely medium warm shade of mahogany. It has a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
