Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1880s.
It has a raised moulded back, with central shield motif, above a three plank top with moulded edge and canted corners. Below this can be found a deep apron with unusual carved, almost castellated, edge. A concealed mahogany lined drawer can be found to the right side and the piece stands on four turned legs. This delightful period piece would make the ideal hall table or lamp table perhaps in a living space? The oak has aged to a lovely warm medium shade full of charm and character from age and use but still with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
