This is a beautiful and superb quality Regency inlaid figured mahogany “D” End Tea Table, circa 1800 - 1830. It is called a “tea table” because it was used for serving tea. It is constructed of the best quality Georgian timber. As the table retains its original polish, the table boasts a mellow mahogany colour to the outside. The table features a solid mahogany top. Along the front and sides of the table, there is stunning figured mahogany veneer. Geometric satinwood string inlay adorns the edge of the tabletop, the front and sides and also the legs. The table has a single extending leg with a vase cushion, which supports the leaf when the tabletop is open. The top opens into two sections on the original brass hinges to expose the centre of the table, which boasts its original polish. The table is supported by a hinged leg, which is cushioned with velvet to protect polish top when the table is open. The table sits on four elegant tapered and satinwood string inlaid legs, which terminate in with spade feet.

Condition Report:

This table is in very good original condition. The top is free from any ink stains or watermarks. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, which is to be expected with an item of this age in original condition. There is also minor fading to the polish on the inside of the table where the joints have been exposed to daylight. There have been additional support patches added near the hinges on the inside of the table a very long time ago (see photos). The table retains its original polish, which is rare but also nice to see. The table has an excellent mellow colour and patination to the timber, which can only be built up through the years of care and cleaning it has received. The table is free from woodworm, solid in joint (not lose or wobbly) and ready to use.
