A Remarkable George II Metamorphic Games Table

Description

A remarkable and totally original mid-18th century George II Cuban mahogany GAMES TABLE.

Truly metamorphic, this wonderful table opens firstly into a solid Tea Table; secondly as a baize-lined card table, complete with "guinea" wells and candlestands and thirdly as an inlaid chess and backgammon table. Finally, the compartment below, with its ratcheted easel, opens to reveal the original hinged backgammon "wall" which fits into ivory peg-holes in the inlaid section above.

To one side is a hinged drawer, with compartments and original lignum vitae tokens etc., and it is supported on five tapering legs which terminate in pad feet. A really superb table that has remained complete for some 270 years!
