Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1800s.
It has a delightfully figured top with canted corners above a deep flamed mahogany apron. The top swivels open to reveal several concealed compartments, ideal for storing games paraphernalia such as cards or chess pieces. Once fully open the console table becomes an ideal tea table for intimate dining or a games table perfect for that afternoon gathering for Bridge! The piece stands on a beautifully carved pedestal with four splayed legs finished with the most wonderful and unusual decorative brass lion paw castors. The table does support a small old repair to the top, often found in antiques that are nearly 200 years old, however this is not detriment to its overall beauty, only adding to its authenticity as an antique. The table is a lovely warm medium shade of mahogany with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
