Pair of George III Demi Lune Tables

Description

Circa 1790, rare pair of George III mahogany and inlaid demi lune tables. The pair of tables with D end tops have a large inlaid shell at the back, and kingwood and satinwood crossbanding. The first table opens to reveal a baize interior which is inlaid and crossbanded around the edge. The second table opens to reveal a solid mahogany interior with a shell inlay on the top and bottom, this being the tea table and the other a card table. Below the tops is a deep apron which has the classic inlay of an urn in the centre and swags rising to the top of each leg where there is an oval shell. The swag continues and has a roundel, finishing at the back leg with another large shell. Below the shell at the top of each of the 4 legs is further inlay down the centre of the leg. All the legs are framed in boxwood, and the tables stand on unusual blocked tapering toes. One of the tables has been re-railed at the back. These are rare, unusual and in excellent condition.
