The superb inlaid central panel design depicts a village with a river running through the centre, with Pagoda style buildings aswell as a fisherman, a bridge & a boat. The quality is excellent for the period & various exotic woods have beem used to create this design.

The sides & back panel of each table are inlaid with flower designs of various woods. These panels have a border of an ebony & boxwood banding.
The three drawers have an outer Kingwood banding & then an inner ebony & boxwood banding with a flower marquetry design either side of the decorative ormolu escutcheons .

Either side of the drawers is an ebony & boxwood line design which gives the effect of fluting.
This leads down to cabriole legs & at the base of the legs are gilt metal feet.
Towards the base is a kidney shaped shelf with a gilt brass gallery, with an inlaid panel depicting an ink well, book & quill, possibly symbolising either law or scholarly work.

This is a French table with heavy Chinese influence, an excellent example of this type of style being very popular both in the latter part of the 19thc as it also is today.
