Highly unusual and charming, country made, Regency Work Table in mahogany. The table stands on an inverted quatrefoil base which in turn stands on four brass orb feet. The central pedestal stem is of plain facetted form. The table top is made as a box, of which the whole top can be taken off to reveal the space within for sewing etcetera. The top is of wonderful flame veneered cuban mahogany with typical late Regency line inlay. The interior of the box is line with a nineteenth century floral fabric. The whole is a very odd design, but I think it was made by a rural carpenter after a fashionable London design, hence the quirky nature of it. The piece is of a wonderful colour untouched with a rich patina to preserve this the slight knocks etc have not been restored but these slight blemishes do not take away from a piece with such charm.
