A very unusual piece of Victorian occasional furniture. A wine table that converts to a jardinaire table. The piece is of fine quality manufacture and is made in solid and figured walnut. The table stands on three legs carved with a running patern of beading, which are united at the base with an undershelf. The table top has a bowl of walnut underneath which terminates in a turned and carved finial, this contains the hidden aperture for plants. The top has a moulded edge and fine figured veneers, the centre has a circular lid that lifts off to reveal the tinned centre original designed for the display of rare and beautiful plants, today this would be perfect to use as a wine cooler. The whole is in good condition and of a lovely colour and patina. C.1850.
